Keith Byler, D.O.

Program Director, Physician Practicum™

As Program Director for Mind the Gap’s Physician Practicum Program™, Keith is a true Renaissance man. He is a physician, a professional certified coach and has certificates in Evidence Based Coaching, Negotiation, Mediation, Conflict Management and as a Physician Development Coach. For fun Keith enjoys sailing, knocking about on his small farm, and astronomy. He is also a published poet and is on the board of the St. Louis Poetry Center, the oldest poetry center of its kind west of the Mississippi.

As the Program Director for Mind the Gap’s Physician Practicum Program™, Keith brings a wealth of experience to Mind the Gap’s physician coaches and our clients. Keith is a professional certified coach through the International Coach Federation, has a Master’s Certificate in Evidence Based Coaching from Fielding Graduate University, and in 2010 completed a Master’s degree in Organization Development from Fielding. In 2012 Keith completed a certificate program through Notre Dame’s Mendoza School of Business in Negotiation, Mediation, and Conflict Management, and in 2013 received certification as a Physician Development Coach through the Physician Coaching Institute.

Keith has a special interest in working with individuals and groups to facilitate learning and performance enhancement. He has coached and consulted with executives in health care as well as various manufacturing operations including oil refineries, steel mills, and manufacturers of automobile parts. Keith has also coached all levels of the management team, from first-level managers to the executive suite. For the past five years Keith has worked with the London Business School coaching senior executives in an Executive Leadership Development program. This has involved both individual and small group process work and has included extensive use of a 360 Degree feedback instrument. In addition, Keith facilitates focus groups and leads retreats for mid- to upper-level managers and senior executives to facilitate change management, team building, and visioning.

In addition to his coaching/consulting practice, Keith is a physician-partner in private practice specializing in Occupational Medicine. The practice has approximately 800 diverse client companies that range from hospital systems to manufacturers of hard goods, food, and service companies. Keith is the medical director for several companies with statewide and nationwide operations, including Illinois Power and Landshire Foods. Prior to entering private practice thirteen years ago, he was an Emergency Medicine physician for ten years, and was the director of three different emergency departments during that time. This breadth of experience provides a robust platform from which to assess and address a variety of coaching and consulting concerns at the individual, team, and organizational levels, and is a particularly strong framework from which to work with physicians, nurses, and others in healthcare.
